The idea
The 119 named lines split mainly on how White handles the center: the Classical Variation (Nf3, Be2) castles quickly and fights for central control move by move, the Sämisch Variation (f3) builds an even bigger center at the cost of slower development, and the Four Pawns Attack goes furthest of all, grabbing maximum space early and betting that Black’s counterplay arrives too late to matter.
