The 391 named lines here split into entire sub-openings of their own: the Open Sicilian (2.Nf3 and 3.d4) leads to razor-sharp theoretical battlegrounds like the Najdorf and Dragon, the Closed Sicilian (2.Nc3, no early d4) keeps the position calmer and more strategic, and Anti-Sicilian tries like the Alapin (2.c3) or the Rossolimo (3.Bb5) let White sidestep the heaviest Open Sicilian theory entirely.
