The idea
The 198 named lines mostly split on how Black defends the center: the Orthodox Defense develops naturally and accepts a slightly passive but solid structure, the Cambridge Springs (...c6 and an early ...Qa5) pressures the pin on White’s c3-knight directly rather than freeing the position with a pawn break, the Tartakower frees it instead with an early ...b6, and lines that allow an isolated queen’s pawn structure trade a static weakness for long-term piece activity.
