The idea

White inserts f3 before committing the knight to c3, reinforcing a coming e4 push and sidestepping some of the sharpest main-line Grünfeld theory. It’s a quieter, more solid way to meet the same fianchetto-then-strike plan, at the cost of a slightly slower buildup than the main Grünfeld lines allow.
